The Marriage of Figaro In Short
2 May 2025
Event details
The same exquisite masterpiece, shortened.
It’s supposed to be the happiest day of Figaro and Susanna’s lives but will their wedding even go ahead? Although married, Count Almaviva is determined to seduce Susanna. Unimpressed by his master, Figaro comes up with a plan to outwit him but, things don’t go quite to plan, when the young Cherubino sets his own agenda in motion.
Featuring all the ingredients of a classic opera – elegant sets and luxurious costumes – love and laughter come together in a whirlwind of clever schemes which will keep you guessing until the final note.
This shortened version of Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro is performed in a relaxed and inspiring environment, with surtitles, narration and BSL.

Feedback from previous Welsh National Opera events:
I brought sixth form students, a mix of A-Level Music and RSL Music Students. Our A-Level students have to study opera, but had never seen one, so was very valuable for them. They really enjoyed it and everyone found it useful and engaging. Overall, a really worthwhile project, which I hope WNO will continue with.
As a secondary teacher, the whole experience was excellent for my students. It was an ideal introduction to opera and it inspired the class who have asked to return. We brought 60 GCSE Music students. Diolch WNO for your vision and determination to reach out and engage on such an appropriate level.
An excellent performance. The abridged version worked incredibly well and thought it was a fantastic experience for students in Key Stage 3. I really hope that there are further opportunities for our students to experience abridged versions of other opera productions in the future.
Seeing such a fantastic cast perform in a wonderful setting. I loved that it was broken up with the narrator which made it more accessible and engaging for our pupils and it was an experience that they would never normally have in their lifetime.
