The renowned Kala Chethena Kathakali Company, from Kerala, South India, is bringing the ancient art of Kathakali back to the UK in the autumn of 2024.
Kathakali is the classical dance drama of Kerala, South India and is featured in the Guinness Book of Records as the most three dimensional make up in the world.
Presented by Kathakali experts from Kerala, who have undergone years of intense training and have performed internationally for decades, the tour focuses on making Kathakali as accessible and enjoyable to as many people as possible including children, families, and students, both from Asian and non-Asian communities.
The performance offers a rare opportunity to see Kathakali in this country, view the makeup, see the costumes, meet the artists, and ask questions.

Born in Kerala, trained at the Kerala Kalamandalam and co- founder of the Kala Chethena Kathakali Company and the top Kathakali specialist in this country. His remarkable potrayal of the Kathakali characters are something to behold as the depth of feeling in his performances is totally captivating.
Kalinalayam Balakrishnan
An outstanding actor who has performed all over the world for decades, was the principal professor at The Sadanam Kathakali Academy, Kerala, India, for 37 years and brings the story alive through his interpretation of the Kathakali heroic characters.
Kalamandalam Kutty Krishnan
Trained at the Kerala Kalamandalam, Kerala, he has toured the UK on many occasions bringing Kathakali to thousands of people all over the country. He excels in his classical movements and characterisation.
Sadanam Mohan
Trained at Sadanam Kathakali Academy, toured the UK, France and other countries specialising in the Kathakali evil characters. He is famous for his arrogance and anger.
Sadanam Suresh
He has performed all over India and abroad and is a senior performer at the Kathakali Centre in Munar, Kerala. He injects the stage with emotion and is experienced in performing Kathakali to western audiences.
