Take to the skies with the Spitfire Girls

Tilted Wig and Mayflower Studios presents Spitfire Girls. After nine years in the making, the show is ready to take to the skies and travel the United Kingdom.

Marking the 80th Anniversary year of the end of World War II, the production has been developed with support from the National Theatre Generate Programme.

To promote the show, we took Candy Adkins, daughter of actual Spitfire girl Jackie Moggridge, along to Solent Sky Museum with writer and actor, Katherine Senior and actor, Laura Matthews.

You can watch the interviews with Candy and the cast on ITV Meridian on Tuesday 11 March, or you can watch it on ITVX here: New theatre show tells the true stories of women who flew for Britain in WWII – Latest From ITV News

The show is set on the New Year’s Eve of 1959. Inspired by remarkable true events, it starts its maiden flight here at our studios for three nights only.

Decades after answering the call, two women separated by the war meet again as the rain hammers down on the windows of The Spitfire pub. As we hear their story, we’re transported back to a time when female pioneers defied expectations and soared through the skies. Spitfire Girls is inspired by the extraordinary true stories of the women who dared to fly during WWII and the incredible bond that tied them together. Funny and heart-warming, this is an untold story of strength, courage and loss. But above all else, hope.

Full cast:

Laura Matthews as Dotty, Katherine Senior and Rosalind Steele will share the role of Bett, Kirsty Cox as Joy, Jack Hulland as Dad/Frank and Samuel Tracy as Tom/Jimmy.

4 members of cast are sat on stage answering questions from the audience
