At MAST Mayflower Studios we pride ourselves on providing a platform for traditionally underrepresented voices in the industry and enabling audiences to be introduced to new theatre. So each spring and autumn we dedicate time in our programme to present Shout Season. The performances in the Shout Season have big themes and ideas, and are created by locally-based artists and companies.
Artist Development Programme Leader, Josh Whatsize comments “The shows often provide opportunities for audiences to hear untold stories and support artists who are starting small scale tours of their productions.
Our spring 2024 Shout Season was the most successful to date, with sell-out performances and many audience members attending MAST for the first time.“
“We supported work from companies local to Southampton including Deadman Theatre from the Isle of Wight with their production of Freshwater Five. We also hosted Rewrites, a programme supporting the development of new musicals, led by The Lowry and supported by MAST, Birmingham Hippodrome and Norwich Theatre.
Our Shout Season in the autumn 2024 features several new pieces of work with an environmental theme alongside a Scratch Night and several talks and workshops. Spring 2025 will feature new pieces of work alongside our Script in Hand initiative and performances from our Propel Associates who have been working with us on a 20-month programme and will be at the end of their association with us.”
