An experience of a lifetime

Our Christmas Youth Productions invite local youngsters to take part in an immersive theatre experience, with rehearsals starting in September and 12 performances over Christmas. Over 150 young people, some of whom have never even been to the theatre before, audition for 50 roles in a professional show.

The significance of this opportunity is highlighted by Mayflower Chief Executive and Creative Director Michael Ockwell: “We invest considerable sums into our youth productions to make them as good as professional touring shows. This is our way of giving back to the community and creating opportunities for the talented young people in our region. We actively seek out talent, running outreach workshops in local schools and colleges to find those with a passion for performing arts.”

Participants must audition, learn lines, sing and dance; they perform complex group routines, rehearse every Sunday, and commit to four months of hard work to get the show ready for the stage in December. Everyone is welcome to audition, be themselves, and do something they love.

Michael continues, “For a few, this could be the beginning of an exciting career path to the West End; for others, it’s a journey of personal growth and discovery, and a chance to belong and build relationships with like-minded people. It’s truly inspiring to reach out into the community and give young people the freedom and space to explore their potential and live happy, fulfilling lives.”

Celebrate and support the talent of our local young people by seeing them in action with this year’s Christmas Youth Production, The Wind in the Willows – Toad’s Big Musical Adventure.
