Rehearsal Space Development

Page Navigation

In 2025 we will begin work on the development of a double-height rehearsal studio connected to our Mayflower Theatre building.

The new three-storey building joins on to the back of the theatre and will better connect our office with our backstage and front of house areas. The double-height studio will be a fantastic space for the 150+ participants of our youth theatre productions to use. The fully accessible stage-level dressing rooms will ensure we can welcome every person.

We’re proud of our reputation as a leading arts organisation. Dedicated rehearsal space for touring companies means we will remain the first stop for West End touring productions.

Frequently Asked Questions

When will the work be finished?

The predicted completion date is late Summer 2026.

Can I still see shows during the development?

The theatre will continue to be operational for the majority of the building works. Our programme of shows accomodates a period of time needed to install new technical equipment in the auditorium.

There is no interruption to shows at MAST Mayflower Studios.

What energy improvements will the new building offer?

We expect a 95% reduction in heating demands associated with ballet rehearsals.

New solar and air source heat pumps will enable the future removal of gas combustion from the theatre.

“More accessible space, for artists of all shapes, sizes, and styles, will be incredible. Even more people can come together and create, especially in beautiful spaces.

I think the new opportunities for work is incredible.”

“Improving dressing rooms and backstage areas for people with disabilities, it’s always going to be huge. It means that it’s accessible for everybody and we can have more diversity on stage.”

“I can’t tell you how much [the double height studio] will help visiting companies.

We always need a place to rehearse and it’s not always accessible to get to the stage due to other work going on in the building.”
